Fridging: torturing, maiming, or killing a woman, just to further a male character’s heroic journey. Phrase coined by Gail Simone.
Women are the primary victims and historically they’ve been portrayed as one-dimensional characters, existing only in relation to the male heroes in their lives.
Today the female characters may be more fully developed on screen. However, their injuries or deaths are ultimately still meant to further a man’s storyline, not their own.
