Media literacy is the ability to understand and critically evaluate the media you consume. It takes you from a passive viewer to a critical consumer.
Why is media literacy important?
Media has social, ideological, and political implications. At its best, media can build empathy, but at it’s worst, it can create divides and perpetuate harmful beliefs.

Answer these questions about the media you’re consuming:
Is there gender equity behind the camera?
Is there diverse leadership behind the camera?
How are women portrayed on screen?
Are there diverse women on screen?
What message is the media telling you, subtly or purposefully?
Is the message something you support?
Who is the intended audience?
How was the media produced?
How accessible is the media?
