Petite Virgin dSLR User searching for Experienced Avid photographers for groupie shoots

One of the coolest thing to do is to give a kid a camera and let them roam free. That's what my dad did - while shopping at Grocery People in 1988, I insisted my dad to buy me this $20 dollar camera that was hanging beside some batteries and nail clippers. He did, and I went wild with it. I can remember my first set of photos; no heads, no symmetry, and no intentions. Looking back on the photos now, there was something brilliant about it. When we are little, there are no inhibitions - we do what we want, no rules, no knowledge of how the world works. When given a camera, we just go crazy - shoot at every thing we find amusing, which is practically everything, and not caring if the camera is angled off. In this world where everything is new, we create compositions that even the most mastered minded photographers have problem thinking.

So what are my points?

  1. I was brilliant
  2. Don't play safe
  3. When you are stumped for ideas, look towards children for inspiration

I've probably owned a zillion point and shoot cameras in my life. I carried them around mostly during junior high and pretended I worked for the yearbook committee, when really I just enjoyed taking pictures of people. In high school I took a photography course and mastered black and white photography - actually no, not really - and learned how to develop my own film. I love the darkroom. Then came the age of digital photography, and as of late, I own 4 different Nikon Coolpix. I love the scene modes - I've created one of my best photos with these cameras;). A year ago I went through a 1/5th age crisis, and decided I needed more control in my life. It's like driving an automatic vehicle: at first its fun and you enjoy the cruise but after a while you just need a stick. So eventually this spread to my camera collection. I realized all I had were similar point and shoot digital cameras. I needed something with more control. So with no hesitation I bought my first dSLR, and just recently started using the manual mode:o)
